The 2011 Scotiabank AIDS Walk for Life Toronto has raised more than $475,000 so far to benefit ACT – the AIDS Committee of Toronto. Congratulations! This represents nearly a 10% increase in fundraising over 2010, a tremendous accomplishment in the midst of uncertain economic times. We would like to express our thanks, admiration and appreciation to all of the Walkers, sponsors and volunteers who took part in creating such a monumental event. The success of the Walk is thanks to supporters like you.
The 2012 Scotiabank AIDS Walk for Life Toronto will take place Sunday, September 23. We hope you will be able to join us! Registration for the 2012 Walk will be announced in the spring.
Founded in 1983, ACT provides information and support to people living with and affected by HIV/AIDS, while also working to prevent HIV transmission through outreach and education. ACT delivers a wide range of programs that promote health and well being, from practical support services to targeted education campaigns in communities affected by HIV/AIDS.
FACTS:
- More people than ever are living with HIV/AIDS in Toronto.
- Two people are infected with HIV (the AIDS virus) every day in our city.
- 1 in 3 new HIV diagnoses are among youth under 30 in Toronto.
- 1 in 5 gay men live with HIV in Toronto.
- 1 in 5 new HIV diagnoses are among women in Toronto.
