- Men have accounted for 87.5% of all positive HIV test reports in Toronto since 1985. 82% of all infections among men in Toronto have been among gay, bisexual, and other men who have sex with men.
- Women have accounted for 12.5% of all positive HIV test reports in Toronto since 1985. 48% of all infections among women in Toronto have been among women from countries with high rates of HIV infection, mostly in Africa and the Caribbean.
- Mode of HIV Transmission in Toronto, 1985-2008:
- Gay, bisexual, and other men who have sex with men (MSM): 72%

- 612 Torontonians were diagnosed as HIV-positive in 2008. In 2007, the number was 575.

- Gay, bisexual and other MSM continue to form the largest group of new HIV infections in Toronto. In 2008, they accounted for 56% of all new HIV diagnoses. In 2008, women accounted for 20% of new HIV diagnoses in the City; this is lower than the 27.3% recorded in 2006.
