Scotiabank AIDS Walk for Life Toronto

Toronto, September 21, 2011 –The annual Scotiabank AIDS Walk for Life Toronto, a benefit for the AIDS Committee of Toronto (ACT), takes place this Sunday, September 25 at Church and Carlton Streets.

“We hope to see many Torontonians this Sunday at what will be a walk of resilience, a walk of remembrance, and a celebration of progress in the fight against HIV/AIDS,” said Jim Stone, Event Chair of the Scotiabank AIDS Walk for Life Toronto. “In Toronto, 1 in 3 new HIV diagnoses are among youth under 30, 1 in 5 new HIV diagnoses are among women, and 1 in 5 gay men live with HIV. That’s why we’re inviting all of Toronto to join the fight against HIV/AIDS. There’s more work to be done.”

“The statistics are clear – HIV/AIDS is still very much a reality in Toronto,” said Hamal Docter, Co-Chair of the Scotiabank AIDS Walk for Life Toronto. “We need to be there for each other, speak up, protect ourselves and one another. That's what ACT -- the AIDS Committee of Toronto -- helps us do. Can you imagine how much worse things would be without ACT’s health promotion and prevention programs – without services for people living with, affected by and at risk for HIV/AIDS? Don’t Just Stand There Toronto! Join us this Sunday as we Walk for Life!”

Juno award-winner Jully Black will headline this year's Scotiabank AIDS Walk for Life Toronto. The line-up also includes Diggy from Down With Webster on the turn tables, as well as DJ Sumation and drag persona Sofonda Cox.
